THE MISFITS Plot 1950s Cover CD, Central American Tour
March 21, 2002The current line-up of THE MISFITS, featuring Jerry Only (bass/vocals),Marky Ramone (drums) and Dez Cadena (guitars),are in the studio recording an album consisting of punk covers of classic 1950s rock and roll hits. Among the tracks slated to appear on the CD are "This Magic Moment" (JAY AND THE AMERICANS),"Dream Lover" (BOBBY DARIN) and "Donna" (RICHIE VALENS). Only states: The backbone of punk has always been the three-chord progression which was ultimately inspired by classic rock and roll of the 1950s. I've always wanted to record some of the music that inspired THE MISFITS to show fiends where it all began. With this album...I will. No official release date has yet been set, but the CD is expected out on the group's own label (Misfits Records),in 2002. A US tour will coincide with the new release.
In other news, THE MISFITS have announced two Central American dates during April. They are as follows:
Apr. 19 - Panama City, PAN @ Jungle Club
Apr. 20 - San Salvador, ES @ Estadio Cuscatlan
Also on THE MISFITS front, the March issue of Fortune Small Business magazine features an article profiling musicians who also run small businesses entitled "Side Gigs". THE MISFITS' Jerry Only is profiled for his family-run machine shop and hobby tool company. Also featured in the article and photo essay are Henry Rollins, Sammy Hagar, Ted Nugent and more.
